Comedian

Paravonian similar to Stephen Lynch

Rob Paravonian will be on campus at 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Bovee University Center's Down Under Food Court. Admission to the event is free. OTF's Public Relations chair and Sterling Heights senior Cristina D'Aristotile compared Paravonian's routine to Stephen Lynch, who has previously performed at CMU. Paravonian also is a musician, mixing songs into his performances. He has appeared on Comedy Central and VH1 and has studied at the University of Southern California and Second City Training Center in Chicago. "He's really fun and different," D'Aristotile said.


Internship

Presentations explore Disney opportunities

The Walt Disney World College Program will host presentations at noon and 6 p.m. Tuesday in Charles V. Park Library Auditorium. The presentations will include information about fall 2008 internships at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. There are a variety of internship positions available for students in all majors and all class levels. Internships are paid and are for credit. Opera Presentation

English professor explains translations

English language and literature professor Ronnie Apter and her husband Mark Herman will host a presentation, entitled "Don't You Know That You're Paid to Be Funny?" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair rooms inside the Bovee University Center. The event is free. Apter looks to educate attendees on the nuances of opera translations. Apter said they have to follow guidelines set by the people that hire them. "We're going to talk about the wiggling around we have to do to make the publishers happy," she said.
