Michael Miserendino walked out of his BCA 210: Survey of Mass Media class last year after a screening for a movie and thought, "I can do this."
The Shelby Township sophomore, who has been writing a script for a film titled "A Name for Myself" since he got to college, is working on the production on his first full-length film.
"It's always been a dream of mine to make a movie," Miserendino said. "I've always liked writing and it's a great way to spend your time."
Miserendino said he showed the script to friend, Novi sophomore Steve Hart, and a couple people on his floor and they all liked it.
"After a while, I was like, 'It might not be too hard to actually do this," he said.
Miserendino then finished up the script and started doing story boards with Hart, the director of photography.
"It's just been a wild ride ever since," Miserendino said.
The movie centers around two main characters, Jason and Eli, who are roommates.
Jason, a college graduate who is applying for jobs, goes home for a couple days after a death in his family. While he's gone, Eli, a college dropout who works at a sub shop, poses as Jason at an advertising firm.
"It's a really cool story because it shows you don't have to have a college education to be considered an intelligent person," Miserendino said. "You don't have to have the certificate certifying your intelligence."
Miserendino and Hart already have a cast. St. Clair Shores junior Dave Giles plays Jason, Paw Paw junior Adam Carey plays Eli and Canton sophomore Kyle Culps plays Ryan, an intern at the firm.
Auditions for other characters will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in Bovee University Center's Isabella Room. Miserendino is searching for college students and middle-age people to fill the roles.
"Hopefully we get a lot more people to audition this time," Giles said. "The first time we didn't get too many people (to audition)."
