Frankenmuth freshman Kraig Haubenstricker knows a little bit about Iowa.
So when Rob Paravonian described the state, Haubenstricker knew what he was talking about.
"When my friend was in Iowa, he told me about it," Haubenstricker said. "It was amazing (how similar it was)."
Paravonian played in front of about 150 students Tuesday night in the Bovee University Center's Down Under Food Court.
The a comedian and guitarist was contacted by Central Michigan University's On The Fly Productions and decided to bring his act to Mount Pleasant.
Paravonian said he enjoys doing college shows because of the connections they make to popular culture.
"The students are more plugged into more cultural aspects," Paravonian said.
The comedian, who has performed on Comedy Central and VH1, performed several skits, including his famous "Pachabel Rant," a skit on the composer's "Canon in D" and how Paravonian can't escape the main melody line.
Paravonian also compared CMU's mascot to the University of Southern California's Trojans. Paravonian attempted to poke fun at CMU, but realized he couldn't.
"I can't make fun of mascots," he said. "We were the Trojans. We were proud."
On The Fly comedy co-chair Chris Patterson, a Comstock Park sophomore, found Paravonian online and decided he would be a good addition to CMU's comedy scene.
"He actually sings, and that's what makes him different," he said.
Tuesday's show was one of the first performances in the Down Under Food Court. Patterson said it was a success.
"It happened to be a pretty good turnout," he said.
