Consistency has been the trademark of Jordan Dunn's freshman season.
The sprinter has not placed lower than fourth in any 60-meter dash.
Coach Karen Lutzke said she has been that way since high school.
"In high school she was consistent and now she's consistent," Lutzke said. "That's kind of the way she is. She's got a level head on her shoulders. When she gets into the competition she doesn't panic."
Dunn is the fastest freshman in the Mid-American Conference in the 60m dash and eighth overall with her time of 7.7 seconds.
"It makes me feel good because I've put a lot of hard work to it and improved," Dunn said.
Dunn started out 2008 by finishing second in the 60m dash in Chippewa Open in 7.82 seconds. Since then, she has finished second twice, third twice and fourth once. Her latest performance, a third-place in the Eastern Michigan Classic, was in 7.72 seconds, .12 faster than her time at the beginning of the season.
"She has made improvements this year," Lutzke said. "Even though her times haven't dropped significantly, she's run really good times the whole year and we're ready for her times to drop even more the next two weeks."
This season, Dunn has had to deal with the transition of running the 60 instead of the 100. Lutzke said her initial acceleration makes her good at the short distance.
"Jordan has a good start, she gets out quick and she's been working really hard this year on getting her finish of the race better," Lutzke said. "And she's doing a good job of that."
Along with running a different event, the year-round workouts are another adjustment.
"It's been a lot different because in high school I never ran the 60 or anything. It was just 100 and 200," Dunn said. "The workouts are a lot different and we never lifted weights in high school, so it's a lot different compared to high school."
She hopes to finish the season running a personal record of 7.65 and finish in the top five in the 60 at the MAC Indoor Championships in two weeks.
Lutzke said it is an obtainable goal.
"She's one of the top people in the MAC and that's what we're hoping for, is for her to score up that high," she said.
