Stanford tries today for three consecutive wins at Jack Skoog Open

Tempestt Stanford sat in the blocks for the 60-meter dash at last year's Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, knowing she was going to run a fast time. But she false started, ending her hopes for a title that year. "It was unfortunate that it happened," the senior sprinter said.

Women's track readying for MAC Championships

Busy schedule keeps Fortin prepared

For sophomore Kyle Fortin, now is the busiest time of the year. Typical college students may enjoy their late nights and later mornings. However, student athletes have to be a lot more disciplined. Fortin, a sprinter for the men's track and field team, is enrolled in 16 credits and has a major in marketing and logistics.

Loiselle to compete in first indoor meet of season

Matt Loiselle's senior season is beginning just as it is ending. The senior distance runner will compete in his first indoor meet this season today as CMU hosts the Jack Skoog Open at Skoog Track. Loiselle had been sick with tonsillitis and the flu earlier in the season and is ready to run after practicing the past two weeks.

Club hockey faces DePaul in first round of regionals

Three months of struggles will not matter this weekend in Chicago for the club hockey team. CMU faces DePaul in the first round of regionals at 3 p.m. today in the Leafs Ice Center. Central beat DePaul 5-2 on Sept. 28, but fell 6-5 on Sept. 29 in Chicago.

Seniors to bid farewell, MAC title at stake

The wrestling team's seven seniors will compete for the final time Sunday in Rose Arena. But before they do that, the Chippewas will wrestle for a share of their 10th consecutive Mid-American Conference title today. CMU can secure at least a share of the MAC championship at 7:05 p.

Women's basketball travels to Kalamazoo for rematch

Women's basketball head coach Sue Guevara said her team is a lot better now heading into a Saturday rematch with rival Western Michigan. CMU lost 67-57 to the Broncos on Jan. 12 at Rose Arena. The Chippewas travel to Kalamazoo for a 2 p.m. matchup. Guevara said Western Michigan also has improved steadily since the first meeting.

Wednesday win propels team into Missouri

Last Saturday, the men's basketball team allowed Eastern Michigan to shoot better than 61 percent from the field. But coach Ernie Zeigler said CMU re-established its defensive presence during Wednesday's 63-58 win against Ball State at Rose Arena, allowing the Cardinals to shoot only 37.

Central opens in Las Vegas

The baseball team will begin its season this weekend with a four-game road trip in Las Vegas. Senior first baseman Sean Hoorelbeke said a fast start is CMU's goal. "We aren't just going out there to win a couple games here and there," he said. "We are trying to get all four and try to hit the ground running, try to start it out the best we can.
