Van used his six-foot, seven-inch frame to shoot over the top of the advantage over the smaller Cardinals, who did not start a player taller than six-feet, five-inches.

"I knew they couldn't block my shot," Van said. "And coach was telling me for the past couple of practices that I'd be able to shoot right over the top of them. It was just wide open for me."

Giordan Watson did not start for just the third time this season after shooting 3-for-14 at EMU. Watson did not attempt a shot in the first half, but finished 1-for-6 with six points. He surpassed Derrick Richmond's career assists record and now has 458 assists for his career.

"The biggest reason for not starting him is to really get his attention on what we need him to do defensively, regardless if he continues to struggle offensively," Zeigler said.

Zeigler said the same starting lineup - Van, Jordan Bitzer, Jeremy Allen, Robbie Harman and Chris Kellermann - could be used again Saturday.

Bitzer (12 points) and Kellermann (11) also scored in double figures for CMU on Wednesday.
