Wrestling shuts out Ohio to win MAC title

By Aaron Vigneault and Aaron Sides Staff Reporters The wrestling team dominated Ohio and wrapped up an unprecedented 10th consecutive Mid-American Conference title Sunday at Rose Arena. After the 45-0 shutout, coach Tom Borrelli made the rounds, thanking the parents of all seven seniors (Brandon Carter, Bubba Gritter, Ben Kelto, Wynn Michalak, Brandon Sinnott, Christian Sinnott and Luke Smith) for their support over a four-year span that saw the group win every MAC dual it competed in, going 20-0 "Sometimes you have a special group of kids that happen to come together and bond well," Borrelli said.
Baseball loses 3 of 4 in Las Vegas

The baseball team dropped three of its first four games in Las Vegas to start its season. CMU lost 9-7 to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Sunday and 6-5 on Friday, but beat the Rebels 3-2 on Saturday. The Chippewas also lost 12-8 to Southern Utah on Friday and found themselves behind early in all four games.
Falls continue in loss to Kent State

Gymnastics coach Jerry Reighard already looked frustrated after back-to-back vault falls to open Saturday's meet against Kent State. The falls continued and for the second consecutive week, the Chippewas counted four. In the end the falls proved to be too much to overcome, as the team lost 194.
Breidinger sets personal best in pole vault at Jack Skoog Open

Junior Marcus Breidinger swung his fist in celebration and collapsed onto the mat in relief after receiving an ovation from the home crowd Friday at the Jack Skoog Open. Breidinger set a personal record with a height of 17 feet, 1 inch - a NCAA provisional height in the pole vault.
Six first-place finishes pace team

Four consecutive CMU runners streaked across the finish line in the 60-meter dash Friday in the Jack Skoog Open. The team's dominance in the dash was a microcosm of the entire meet. The Chippewas had six first-places, five second-places, six third-places and six fourth-places.
Women lose in OT to Western

In a game that featured nine ties and 14 lead changes, the women's basketball team lost 98-91 in overtime Saturday to Western Michigan in Kalamazoo. After two 3-pointers by junior guard Angel Chan and freshman guard Shonda Long in overtime, CMU was held without a field goal the rest of the way.
Men allow 43 free throws in road loss

A .500 field goal percentage was not enough Saturday for the men's basketball team at Missouri State. The Chippewas connected on 29-of-58 field goals, but allowed the Bears to shoot even better in their 90-76 loss in Springfield, Mo. Missouri State shot 59 percent from the field.
