Peters' competition exits race
Nancy Skinner, one of CMU's Griffin Endowed Chair Gary Peters' opponents for the Democratic bid for Congress, has exited the race against Rep. Joe Knollenberg, R-Bloomfield Township. Peters has raised more than $400,000 for his campaign, according to the Associated Press. "I thank Nancy Skinner for her dedication and service and I look forward to working in a united effort to defeat Joe Knollenberg," Peters said in a statement Monday.

Registration ends for open audition
Applications for rock bands with CMU ties are being accepted for the chance to play for the Crocs Next Step Campus Tour Battle of the Bands, a contest for local groups to compete to open for One Republic and Fabolous. Bands must enter a group photo, group biography, contact information, information about your link to CMU, links to two songs and optional links to YouTube videos of the band. Bands must enter their information by Thursday to CMUbattleofthebands@gmail.com. Judges from Program Board and On The Fly Productions will pick the top three bands. The Crocs tour will post the three bands online, where students can vote for their favorite. For more information, visit crocsbattleofthebands.com.

Taganai, an act similar to Cirque de Soleil, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort, 6800 Soaring Eagle Blvd. The Russian and Siberian performers combine circus and theater in elaborate costumes to music. Ticket prices range from $22 to $42 and are available at the Soaring Eagle Box Office, starticketsplus.com or by calling 800-585-3737. The Jordan World Circus will perform one show from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Finch Fieldhouse. The University Events Office is sponsoring the event. Tickets can be purchased one hour before the performance. Tickets are $16 for adults and $10 for children, but coupons are available for kids to get in free.
