Andrea Myers likes to challenge herself.

"I think it's good to challenge yourself and try something new and not just stick with the same things over and over again," she said.

Myers, CMU's Artist in Residence, gave a presentation Monday night and showed pictures of many pieces of artwork she has put together over the last few years.

"It was really different and I like different," said Niles sophomore Ellen Siemon. "It was neat to see things that weren't all the same."

Clare graduate student Anne Marie Austin said it was interesting the way Myers made 3-D work out of 2-D objects such as fabric.

"I really liked the color fabric that she used," Austin said. "It caught my attention."

Many of Myers 3-D pieces of art were swarming with color.

"I'm just really attracted to color," Myers said.

Austin said Myers' work looked strong, like it had consistency. She said she could see it evolving.

Myers also spoke and told the story behind her art work. She is economical about her fabrics and likes to keep the remains and use them in other works of art.

"I have been to a gallery, but it was nice to learn about the process and what went into it," Siemon said.

Myers said the experience of moving from Chicago to Mount Pleasant has made her become more patient.

"I experience little distractions here and it's slow paced," Myers said.

Myers said when she first came from the big city to Mount Pleasant, she had a hard time sleeping because it was so quiet.

"This has been a really great experience that has given me time to be reflective," Myers said. "Being here has definitely helped me progress."

One of the main things Myers said will change in her life when she goes back to Chicago is her studio location.

Before, Myers had to bike or ride the subway to get to the studio. Here, Myers has a studio of her own in her house.
