Dr. Harold K. Moores III and Dr. Stephen C. Frey's push of a shovel into the ground Tuesday began the six-month construction of the Isabella Health Care Center.

The new health care center, located on the corner of Isabella and Bluegrass roads, is expected to be completed Aug. 4.

Moores said the goal of the clinic is to have a "one-stop shopping center" with quality care in a timely fashion.

"Anyone is welcome to come to the center," he said.

Care center representatives are meeting with officials at the Central Michigan Community Hospital to work together to establish a walk-in clinic.

Moores said the center will accept all types of health insurance. Payment plans also can be arranged for college students who are unable to pay directly for health care.

Frey, who will serve as Isabella Health Care Center medical director, said the center plans to operate noon to midnight with extended hours on weekends. The center also will be open on holidays.

Frey said the center will offer minor services to various complex procedures, such as X-rays and lab testing.

There also will be a pharmacy located within the center for patients to receive a full prescription before they leave.

"We're here for the community and the university," Frey said.

Moores said the center cannot focus on the community without focusing on Central Michigan University as well.

He said the key components the center will offer for CMU students are the variety of services, extended facility hours and pricing.

"Price is important - we were all college students ourselves once before," Moores said.

The center will employ 25 local medical staff including physicians, physician assistants, nurses and other health care professionals.

Moores and Frey are the senior partners for Central Michigan Emergency Physicians, a group of physicians who provide service at Mecosta County Medical Center in Big Rapids and Spectrum Health-Reed City Hospital in Reed City.

The two doctors also own Cadillac's After Hours Clinic.

Grady Graham, president of Graham Construction Inc., said the expected opening date allows for a relaxed construction schedule. The center will be developed as a modern design.
