The Detroit Pistons will host its first day-long telethon in Detroit sports history this weekend.

Phone lines will open at 6 a.m. Friday and operators will take donations through the 7:30 p.m. game against the San Antonio Spurs that night. Donations to the Pistons Cares Telethon will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan.

"We want to grant 50 wishes for kids with life-threatening medical conditions," said David Wieme, director of strategic communications. "Typically the average wish is about $8,000, so about $400,000 will get us to our goal; obviously if we go beyond our goal and we think we can do that, we will grant more wishes."

Michigan's Make-A-Wish President and CEO Susan Lerch said the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan is delighted to partner with the Detroit Pistons to raise funds.

"We look forward to continuing this wonderful partnership to grant wishes and we are so grateful," she said in a press release.

People who donate a minimum of $5 will be entered into a drawing with the grand prize of a trip for two to an away game, traveling on the Piston's private plane Roundball One.

"What we wanted to do is (give people an incentive) and make sure that they donate, so some of the prizes that we have are autographed merchandise like Pistons jerseys, Pistons shoes, autographed basketballs" Wieme said, "We are actually going to give the jerseys off the players back from that night against San Antonio on Friday."

The winners will be announced throughout the game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Donations can be made by calling 1-877-DPC-WISH (1-877-372-9474) or by going to pistons.com and clicking on the DONATE NOW tab.
