The search for a new associate vice president of public relations and marketing may be nearing its end.
Four candidates have been named as choices to replace Rich Morrison, who was fired Nov. 30.
Morrison was fired because of various incidents involving fellow staff members. He had received multiple formal reprimands before his firing; University President Michael Rao described his behavior as "egregious."
The candidates are Renee Walker, Michelle Searer, Robert Quakenbush and Patrick Crowley.
Walker is a CMU alumna and currently is the manager of corporate public relations for Kelly Services, Inc. in Troy. Her interview is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Thursday in Bovee University Center's Lake Huron Room. It is open to the public.
"The university has a solid and wonderful story to tell," Walker said. "It's a bit under the radar in some regards, and I'd like an opportunity to help it achieve its goals and accomplish its vision."
Searer is director of marketing and communications at Indiana University Northwest in Gary, Ind. Quakenbush was most recently president for marketing and communications services for the Family and Children's Center in Mishawaka, Ind. And Crowley was last senior vice president of marketing for Community Health Partners in Lorain, Ohio.
"Coming from a higher education environment, there are similar challenges we all face," Searer said. "I look forward to contributing to further the mission of the university."
Kathy Wilbur, vice president of government relations and public affairs is chair of the search committee.
Wilbur said the university is looking for someone who can do a "tremendous amount" of work.
"CMU is searching for someone who has a great deal of marketing in their background, and someone with an understanding of how you brand an organization, establish an identity for the public, for recruitment purposes and simple recognition of CMU," Wilbur said.
"Public relations plays a part in marketing, and how you establish an identity for an organization. Also, some management skills obviously."
Human Resources looked at many résumés before narrowing down the candidates to give to the search committee.
Wilbur said it did phone interviews with some candidates.
Searer will meet with the selection committee 4 p.m. Friday, Quakenbush at 2:15 p.m. March 20, and Crowley at 2:15 p.m. March 21 for open forums. All will take place in Bovee University Center's Lake Huron Room
