CLEVELAND - The men's basketball team suffered its worst loss against a Mid-American Conference opponent this season in its 81-60 defeat against Akron on Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena.
Central was down just five at halftime of the MAC Tournament quarterfinal, but was outscored by 16 in the second half in its final game of the season.
"It was tough way to end our season," Zeigler said. "We had,
in our minds, different aspirations for things to turn out in different ways but unfortunately, we ran into a team that was a lot more hungry than we were tonight."
The Chippewas hit just 32.1 percent of their shots in the second half and just 34.5 for the game. Akron meanwhile hit 65 percent in the second half and 56 for the game.
"They were contesting every shot and I think their defense definitely fueled their offense," Zeigler said.
Central (14-17) had few answers for Zip forward Jeremiah Woods. Woods finished the game with 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
Junior Forward Chris Kellermann led CMU with 14 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Giordon Watson chipped in with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Akron (22-9) moves on to face Western Michigan in the semi-final round at 7 p.m. on Friday.
