The baseball team has a quick turnaround after its 5-2 win Sunday in Evansville, Ind., for today's 5 p.m. game against Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
Coach Steve Jaksa said he always enjoys playing the Fighting Irish for a chance to play against some great non-conference competition.
"It's another opportunity to play an opponent from a different league," Jaksa said. "We've had some success over Notre Dame in recent years."
Jaksa said he still was unsure who the starting pitcher will be, but said it probably will be junior James Teas.
"It's one of our big non-conference opponents," said senior outfielder Tyler Stovall. "We'll try to see if we can carry our momentum into tomorrow and MAC play this weekend."
CMU won in extra-innings against Evansville. Stovall singled up the middle to score junior outfielder Cody Allen with no outs in the top of the 11th inning.
"On the first hit, I looked to bunt, but I got a slider for a ball," Stovall said. "Evansville switched to a bunt defense and I swung to try and hit it up the middle. There was no defense up the middle."
The Chippewas added two more runs to secure the win.
Sophomore right-hander Jesse Hernandez got the win after throwing a scoreless two innings in relief, giving up just one hit while allowing no walks and three strikeouts on one hit.
He came in after relieving senior right hander Eric Lawrence, who pitched nine innings, walking none and striking out seven while allowing one earned run.
The earned run came in the bottom of the ninth after Lawrence gave up a solo home run to tie the game at two.
"We did a lot of good things," Jaksa said.
The win ends a three-game losing streak, including two on Friday and Saturday.
CMU was defeated by Cleveland State on Saturday, 4-2, and lost 7-4 to North Dakota State on Friday.
The team has its first home game at 3 p.m. Wednesday against Wayne State.
