Students normally are not thrilled to see Isabella Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski in his tan and brown uniform.
However, Mioduszewski could turn a few heads wearing something a little more profound. He will be modeling a tuxedo at the fourth annual "Signs of Spring" fashion show at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Bovee University Center's Rotunda.
Mioduszewski said he is excited about the opportunity to support the American Red Cross.
"I'm game for something new and fun," he said. "It's not like I'm planning on making this a full-time career."
Mioduszewski said the police department works closely with the local charity and is always looking to help support.
The event, hosted by the Central Michigan chapter of the American Red Cross, will begin with a cash bar followed by dinner and a fashion show.
Other well-known Mount Pleasant citizens will model local retail stores' clothing and jewelry.
Mioduszewski will be one of the many models who will walk around the tables explaining their outfit and retail store they are modeling for.
Demond Pryor, associate direct of facilities operations for University Recreation, said a co-worker asked him to participate.
Pryor said this is his first year participating and he is nervous about modeling.
"I'm going to start watching the Tyra Banks 'America's Next Top Model' show to learn how to walk," he joked.
Pryor, a certified golf instructor, has supported the Red Cross with its fall golf outing as well.
"It makes you feel really good knowing you're helping other people," he said.
Dave Weston, communication coordinator for the CMU American Red Cross Chapter, said this event is a great opportunity for college students and the community to support this nonprofit organization.
"All proceeds go directly back to the chapter for disaster services, the food pantry and bills," Weston said.
The chapter provides students and the community health and safety services including blood drives and CPR training.
Tickets are $25 and limited at the door. Students interested in the event should call the Red Cross office before noon today at 773-3615.
