Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski said that he's always willing to help out the Red Cross, but not always in a tuxedo.

Mioduszewski, along with several other community members, were celebrity tuxedo models in the Red Cross "Signs of Spring" fashion show Thursday.

"It's all in good fun," Mioduszewski said with a laugh.

The fashion show, which has been put on for the past five years, benefits the Red Cross with donations from ticket sales.

After the show, there was a buffet-style dinner and an open bar in the Bovee University Center Rotunda.

Local stores such as Trillium Fine Clothing, 123 E. Broadway St., Black-Tie Tuxedo and Costume Shop, 1017 S. Mission St., The New Yorker, 117 S. Main St., and jewelry from Ace of Diamonds, 128 E. Broadway St., provided the clothes.

Helen Chase, owner of Trillium, is this year's fashion show director and was in charge of 20 models. Chase said she got involved with the show when it first started.

"I got involved because it's a wonderful cause," she said. "And a great fundraiser for the Red Cross."

While most fashion shows have a catwalk, this show was different. The models walked from table to table and let people know what they are wearing and what store it came from.

"The advantage to this is that people can see the clothing better, can touch the fabrics, can ask more questions, and the feedback we get is that it's more fun," Chase said.

Judy Smith, one of this year's co-producers, said it is great to raise awareness for the Red Cross at a fun event where people can gather.

"It's also great to celebrate spring with new fashions," Smith said.
