Senior 184-pound Christian Sinnott earned his first All-America honor after a 3-2 quarterfinal decision over unseeded Doug Umbehauer from Rider.

A 4-2 loss to Iowa State's Jake Varner put Sinnott in the consolation semifinal where he against recorded his third win of the season over Iowa's Phil Keddy, 7-4.

The third-place match brought Sinnott's career to an end with a loss, however, as No. 3 seed Tyrel Todd of Michigan got his second win of the season against Christian, 3-2.

Brandon Sinnott started his third national tournament by earning back-to-back decisions before losing 7-2 to Iowa's Jay Borschel in the quarterfinals. Sinnott came into the weekend with national title aspirations, but bounced back by winning consecutive matches in the wrestleback bracket. He earned a decision against Northern Iowa's Alex Dolly and then beat No. 6 seed Alton Lucas of Hofstra.

Sinnott's momentum was slowed in the consolation semifinals by the No. 3 seed Brandon Browne of Nebraska, but the senior finished his career with a win, taking a 3-2 decision against Cornell's Steve Anceravage in the fifth-place match.

"I wanted to be an National Champion, but even if you don't reach your goal, it's great that the byproduct is being an All-American," Brandon Sinnott said. "It feels good to be an All-American with my brother Christian. I thought all the seniors and even the underclassmen wrestled great. Everyone wrestled tough. I'm really proud of everyone."

Heavyweight Bubba Gritter, the No. 8 seed, was a stalling point away from advancing to the semifinal but never got the call. Top-seed Dustin Fox advanced instead, on the strength of a 2-1 decision.

"I felt like we out-wrestled the kid the whole match," Borrelli said. "The kid just backed around the edge of the mat and we couldn't get a call."

Gritter responded in a big way by winning an 11-2 major decision against Illinois' John Wise to earn All-American honors.

The senior's career ended in anti-climactic fashion when he won by injury default in the seventh-place match.
