CMU's comeback effort falls short in 5-4 loss to Ohio

Ohio designated hitter Robert Maddox III led off the inning with a double and then was moved to third after first baseman
Jerod Yakubik singled. Yakubik then stole second and center fielder Matt Stiffler then doubled the two in.
Shortstop Zach Hartle then doubled in Stiffler and right fielder Marc Krauss then singled in Hartle. Third baseman Brandon Besl also singled, making it first and second with two outs, but Taylor got catcher Chris Klimko to fly to right field
ending the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, CMU responded. Nowaczyk led off with a single and then advanced to second after an error by Hartle, and senior shortstop Jeff Helps reached on the fielder's choice. After a couple fly outs, Ohio took out
Elmer and put in right-hander Kevin Mementowski.
CMU responded by pinch-hitting redshirt freshman Brendan Emmett, who doubled down the left field line to score Nowaczyk and Helps. Emmett then scored off a base hit by senior catcher Tyler Stovall. Hoorelbeke then flied out to center, ending the inning.
In the sixth, freshman center fielder Billy Anderson led off with a single and then was moved to third when Nowaczyk singled through the hole between first and second. Helps then singled through the same hole, scoring Anderson and moving Nowacyzk to third.
With the scored tied at 4, Ohio took out Mementowski and put in Smith. Pinch hitting for senior third baseman Noah Lankford, redshirt freshman Casey Ingle struck out looking.
Junior centerfielder Cody Allen then walked, loading the bases with two outs for Emmett. Emmett then popped out to the shortstop, ending the inning tied at 4.
Ohio put together a threatening situation in the top of the seventh. Taylor gave up a single, a fielder's choice and then
two more singles to load the bases with just one out. Hernandez then replaced Taylor.
Hernandez got Besl to strike out swinging and Klimko to ground to second, ending the Bobcats' rally.
