Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a press conference Monday that honesty and integrity in the justice system is everything.
"Even children understand lying is wrong," Worthy said. "Some people have suggested that the issues before us are personal or private. Our investigation has clearly shown that public dollars were used, people's lives were ruined, the justice system was severely mocked and the public trust trampled on."
Retired CMU professor Jerry Strouse said sex scandals involving public officials are not uncommon throughout the world.
"The Italians are very accepting of these flings of public officials," Strouse said. "It's occurred all throughout history. Historically, the press have left these things alone. They considered this to be a personal and private issue, a mutual code of ethics that they wouldn't report misbehaviors, especially when they didn't involve unethical things such as firing people."
The Detroit Free Press contributed to this report.
