But after someone nominated her Monday night, she will get her chance to campaign at the organization's next meeting.
"I had an idea (I would be nominated)," the Saginaw senior said. "But it was random."
Scott will run against Saginaw freshman Rose Wilson at the next meeting at 9:15 p.m. April 7 in the Bovee University Center's Multicultural Education Center.
Current president Ashley N. Smith said her role as president has been a great experience.
"I'm very excited, but kind of sad," the Pontiac senior said. "This is one of the most prominent things I've done."
In addition to the president's position, the other executive board positions also had their nominations open to the chapter's members, such as treasurer and secretary.
Detroit junior Taryn Markoe was the lone nominee for Student Government Association representative, a position she currently holds.
"It's fun," Markoe said. "The meetings are interesting."
Other areas that held nominations were the first vice president position, with the candidates being Wilson and Detroit sophomore Aaron Staley. Second vice president position nominees include Staley and Bloomfield Hills sophomore Jasmine Crossland.
Both presidential candidates said they are looking for students to become more involved, even if it is with another registered student organization at CMU.
"Involvement is power," Scott said. "You should join some organization to get involved."
The president's office is responsible for running the chapter's meetings and organizing committees, as well as talking to the media, Smith said.
Wilson had experience within the group before coming to CMU. She serves as the second vice president to the Michigan Youth and College Division for the NAACP. Using her experience with the organization, she hopes to utilize her leadership to advance the CMU chapter, she said.
