I was caught off guard Monday when someone asked me which presidential candidate teachers should support. Having not read candidate position papers since December, I was left scratching my head, feeling blood rush to my cheeks, feeling thoroughly embarrassed.

A complaint was printed in Wednesday's CM Life accusing CMU of "trying to crash John Stossel's lecture," described as a "conservative event" by scheduling a Speak Up Speak Out forum, described as a "liberal event." Just for clarification: The SUSO organizing committee (which includes faculty, staff and students) meets each spring to plan the SUSO series for the following academic year.

The recent announcement of criminal charges against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is a nail through a coffin long nailed shut. Kilpatrick, in the throes of a scandal that has garnered national attention, faces eight criminal charges ranging from perjury to misconduct in office.

Students should register for emergency texting
The university's new emergency contact system is a fairly good idea. But it has one catch: Students actually need to participate in it. The plan, through National Notification Network (3N), will send students a text message in case of a campus emergency.
