The family of Rob Flynn sat silent as the former City Clerk pled guilty Friday to charges of embezzlement by a public official more than $50.
As City Clerk, Flynn was in charge of checks which paid for cemetery lots. He admitted in court that in fall of 2007 he took one of those checks and "converted it to his own use" according to Flynn's attorney Gordon Bloem.
Flynn turned himself into police Jan. 23 after a warrant was issued for his arrest. According to the warrant, Flynn embezzled between $9,800 and $15,000.
City Manager Kathie Grinzinger said the money was found missing during a random check on November 19. Flynn retired as City Clerk the next day.
The city is asking for full restitution of the missing money along with compensation for the $12,440 the city paid independent accounting firm The Rehmann Robson Group, LLC to audit their accounts once the money was found missing.
Bloem could not be reached for comment.
Flynn's sentencing is scheduled at 8:15 a.m. April 25. Flynn could face up to 10 years in prison.

Hey, I know you want to encourage Web site comments, but baseless accusations of the decades-past high school variety? C'mon. Journalistic integrity has to apply to the Internet, too, or else we're all just bloggers spouting whatever we feel like. (Continued…)

Reporters are accountable? Oh, you mean they print a retraction on page xxx and call it good? No harm, no foul?
They really just hide behind the "search for the truth". (Continued…)
