Central Michigan University students who feel snubbed by the Easter bunny are in luck.
The Rabbit Run Scavenger Hunt offers the opportunity to collect eggs and win prizes while earning money for a local organization from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday starting outside of Finch Fieldhouse.
"It's a chance for students to have an Easter egg hunt of their own," said Kristen Olinski, Royal Oak sophomore and one of five students organizing the event for RPL 430: Recreation Programming. "It's something people our age don't usually get to do."
The grand prize of the event is a night on the town in Midland for two. It includes tickets to a Great Lakes Loons baseball game, dinner and a one-night stay in a local hotel, Olinski said.
The scavenger hunt will begin at Finch Fieldhouse and clues will lead participants to numerous locations on campus. Each station on the scavenger hunt has giveaways from area businesses, including sponsors Bennigan's, Biggby Coffee, Mountain Dew and Buffalo Wild Wings.
"Bennigan's will be providing appetizers, and Mountain Dew will be giving away other prizes, so we're really excited about that," said Josh Greenwald, Imlay City sophomore.
Other prizes include Detroit Pistons tickets and merchandise, Saginaw Spirit tickets and restaurant gift certificates.
Participants will be able to purchase raffle tickets in addition to the ones found in eggs, Olinski said.
Pinconning junior Laura Jay is looking forward to attending the event.
"The group has done a lot of hard work and collecting within the community," Jay said. "There are a lot of companies backing them, and there are different prizes."
Scavengers who are not lucky enough to win one of the large prizes will not go home empty handed. Each participant will receive a CMU Bookstore gift bag filled with promotional items and area coupons.
The scavenger hunt concludes with an Easter egg hunt. Plastic eggs containing candy, prizes, and raffle tickets for a grand prize will be scattered across the field between Finch Fieldhouse and the Health Professions Building.
Registration for the Rabbit Run Scavenger Hunt will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday before the hunt. Tickets are $4.
Participants may pre-register on the Facebook.com Rabbit Run Scavenger Hunt event page. They will be placed on a guest list and their tickets will cost $3.
All proceeds will benefit the Humane Animal Treatment Society.
