From "101 Dalmatians" to "Pocahontas," the atmosphere of the Towers lobby was nostalgic of a childhood trip to Walt Disney World.

"Mission: Impossible," a campus- and community-wide scavenger hunt, began at 8 p.m. Friday as Central Michigan University students crammed together in front of Real Food on Campus.

Groups from residential halls across campus dressed up as their favorite Disney movie characters for this year's scavenger hunt theme.

Group 'Swerrill' of Merrill Hall took on the theme of "The Little Mermaid." Milford sophomore Jennifer Slack gathered her group as the team delegation leader.

"We have to stick together and look out after each other to make sure no one gets hurt or separated," Slack said.

The Fabiano, Emmons and Woldt halls team was named the winner of the scavenger hunt, while Calkins Hall and Larzelere Hall were named second and third place, respectively.

Before heading out on the search, coordinators took pictures of each group in front of a backdrop with Cinderella's Castle. Teams then went to their corresponding tables where they received ribbons indicating their involvement with the event and packets containing all materials needed to complete the hunt.

"I did it last year," said Bay City sophomore Ryan Sequin. "My team didn't do so well, but this year we're prepared and ready to do much better."

Sequin, who was part of team 'Swerrill,' explained its strategy and how members planned to execute it.

"We have three separate cars that will go to different parts of the city, while a group stays back to take care of any questions related to the campus," he said.

After groups were situated, they gathered to play games to earn points toward their overall score. Volunteers from each team participated in the games, which involved eating an apple from a string without using your hands and trying to make members from other groups laugh without saying a word.

Battle Creek sophomore Zach McNees tackled the laughing charade while somewhat resembling Ariel of "The Little Mermaid." He was dressed in a lime green skirt, red wig and a flowered bikini top.

"I gave them a little lap dance and showed off a little skin," McNees said.

As the countdown to 9 p.m. started, teams assembled at the doors of the RFoC, anticipating the signal to begin.

When given the go, students rushed to their designated meeting places to execute their strategies. At midnight, students started returning from the hunt with their findings.

"It was hilarious fun, but I'm exhausted," said Grand Haven freshman Caitlin Wozniak.
