Buffalo's heroics lead to sweep
Single in bottom of 10th inning wins game for Bulls

Several inches meant the difference between a sweep and a split Sunday for the CMU baseball team. Buffalo's Adam Skonieczki placed a single past the outstretched glove of second baseman Brendan Emmett to give the Bulls a 4-3 win in the 10th inning and two-game sweep of the Chippewas.

Ali Pettit found herself in a familiar jam with two runners in scoring position with one out and the tying run up to the plate on Saturday against Northern Illinois. But the junior pitcher was able to rely on her defense as she had all day to retire the final two NIU batters, and the Chippewas finished the weekend 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference.

It didn't result in a championship, but for gymnastics coach Jerry Reighard, CMU's new outlook and attitude that was on display Saturday in Kent, Ohio, was unmistakable. With a 2-4 conference record, CMU entered the Mid-American Conference championship meet as the fifth seed.
Sophomore impresses during weekend

Kari Seddon celebrated with her teammates Saturday as they rushed to the pitcher's circle after the last two outs were recorded with the bases loaded at the CMU Softball Complex. The sophomore pitcher shut out Northern Illinois in the first game of the doubleheader and Central got a 2-0 win.
Freshman wins all-around title

The gymnastics team finished third Saturday at Kent, Ohio, but one Chippewa returned home a champion. Freshman Andrea de la Garza won the Mid-American Conference all-around championship with a total score of 39.125 for the four events. She is the first CMU gymnast to win an individual conference title since Sarah Burtinsky won the all-around and uneven bars in 2005.

Tracy Kaatz's 26 stolen bases last season tied her for fourth all-time in CMU softball single-season history. She was only thrown out three times. This season, Kaatz has continued to impress. "It is important for the team to have anyone in scoring position," Kaatz said.

DETROIT (AP) - And then there were ones. Four No. 1s, that is. Kansas wore down Stephen Curry and plucky upstart Davidson with its size and strength, holding on for a 59-57 victory Sunday that put all four No. 1 seeds into the Final Four for the first time.
