It's come time to make the final fittings and cut any loose threads.

This year's 10th annual Threads fashion show will showcase 32 student designers and human environmental studies faculty Maureen MacGillivray.

Students are finishing up their garments and adding final touches to ensure that their original designs are runway ready for this weekend's show, which will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Finch Fieldhouse.

Tickets cost $10 to $15 and can be purchased at the Central Box Office. This year's show theme is "Inspired."

"We wanted to offer a broad enough theme that encompassed what Threads is really about -allowing each designer to somewhat choose his or her own theme, the overall concept of the show is individual per designer, yet still a cohesive show that makes sense," said Lindsay Gibbons, Threads coproducer and a Macomb senior.

Designers are raising the bar this year by incorporating new techniques and creating more pieces, Gibbons said.

Holland junior Luke Mamo, who will show 16 different looks, said he chose rock-n-roll glam as his inspiration, including a socialite twist and a military influence.

"I think having such a large collection will help me stand out from the rest because it shows that I can design a large amount of garments yet still allowing them all to coordinate with one another," Mamo said.

Show goers also will see swimsuits from first year designer Kateland Harris. The Big Rapids sophomore tried to incorporate recycling into her collection by including pop tabs.

The idea came to her last year when she and a roommate began collecting the tabs to make belts.

Designers Brandi Kimball, Romeo senior, and Robre'na Davis, Detroit senior, found inspiration for their collections from their family and friends.

Kimball is showing three outfits. She said the garments are something you can wear out on the town.
