Chippewas travel to Bowling Green to face undefeated Falcons
Issue date: 4/4/08 Section: Sports
The baseball team will take the momentum from a two-game winning streak on the road this weekend when it faces Mid-American Conference East Division leader Bowling Green.
The Chippewas have lost four of their first five conference games, but look to flip things around when they play single games today, Saturday and Sunday. The first game begins at 3 p.m. today.
The two teams play at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
"We need to take this momentum and ride it into the weekend," said coach Steve Jaksa. "We need to get some Ws this weekend and then fight our way back into the conference race."
Bowling Green is undefeated in MAC play and has won seven of its last 10 games.
The Falcons have only played three MAC games. Their first series against Western Michigan during Easter weekend was canceled because of poor weather.
BGSU swept Northern Illinois in three home games last weekend.
Jaksa said if his team is going to contend in the MAC, it must start this weekend.
"We have 21 games left and we feel like we can make a run, but we have to get started. We can't wait for someone else," he said. "I still like our team and believe in them. We still have to do it. It's not like Bowling Green is going to care that we beat Michigan."
Jaksa's team should have a fresh bullpen going into the weekend thanks to a six-inning shutout performance Wednesday by Chris Kupillas against Michigan.
"We probably cant use Kupillas until Sunday now," Jaksa said. "We didn't use Bryce (Morrow) and we didn't use Jesse (Hernandez), so we've got a lot of guys fresh going into the weekend and we feel pretty good about that."
Central Michigan outscored the Falcons by a combined score of 25-7 in the teams' series last season.
