Lindsay Gibbons stood back in a homemade evening gown, admiring the work she dedicated her final school year to.
More than 150 models walked the runway Saturday night in the 10th annual Threads Fashion Production.
The show's theme, "Inspired," allowed student designers the opportunity to display personal meaning within their works.
"I think this was one of our best shows," said Gibbons, Macomb senior and producer and designer at this year's Threads. "The designers really stepped it up this year, making the show have overall great quality."
But how much time and dedication is put into making a fashion show?
Model Ann Marie Woods said there was more put into the production than the audience could see.
"The designers have spent hours upon hours on what the audience only sees for one minute," said Woods, Midland senior.
Time after time
Holland junior Lucus Mamo worked day and night on his line since winter break.
"I would come home from classes and sew until three or four in the morning," Mamo said.
Mamo had the largest line consisting of 16 models who displayed his inspired work of rock 'n' roll glam with a socialite twist.
"When I created each piece, I already had an idea in mind of what I wanted the models to look like," he said.
After designing the line, Mamo hand-tailored each garment specifically to fit the models.
"I was still sewing up to 15 minutes before I had to turn them all in," he said.
Mamo developed his passion for fashion design in third grade when his grandmother taught him how to sew.
"I first started designing Barbie clothes because I didn't like what they wore," he said.
In his senior year of high school, Mamo took part in the fashion program where he learned most of his techniques.
Modeling myself
This show was not only an exhibition for seniors, but underclassmen as well.
Big Rapids sophomore Kateland Harris was able to design and partake in her portion of the show for the first time.
She had challenges creating her garments with the lack of higher level classes.
"I didn't take a sewing class until the second semester and I haven't taken pattern making," Harris said.
