Baseball beats BGSU for first MAC series win

The baseball team took advantage of its 12 hits and Bowling Green's three errors to win 10-6 Sunday, and win its first conference series. CMU finished with seven extra-base hits Sunday to take two of three during the weekend in Bowling Green, Ohio. The team raised its record to 11-16 overall and 3-5 in the Mid-American Conference.

Softball takes two from Eastern Michigan, remains first in MAC West
Amy Hudson stopped at second base, lifted her arms and received an ovation from the home crowd Sunday after recording her fifth RBI in two games. The senior third baseman batted 4-for-5 and scored two runs in CMU's 9-5 win against Eastern Michigan. She also had six assists on defense and led the softball team to a two-game series sweep.
Kaatz's speed drives team's offense

Tracy Kaatz has made a living out of getting extra bases the hard way this season. The junior center fielder has stolen 22 bases this season, only five shy of breaking her career mark set last season. Kaatz had three steals Sunday in Central's 9-5 win against Eastern Michigan, each of them coming after she reached base on a single.

The men's track and field team lost handily to Eastern Michigan on Saturday with just five event wins. The Eagles beat CMU 115-59 in the CMU Open at Bennett Track. "It's kind of ugly, but Eastern is a very good team," said coach Jim Knapp. "They have huge numbers in the dual meet setting and they have big numbers for everything.
Western women beat Chippewas in first outdoor meet of season

The women's track and field team came up on the losing end against one of its biggest Mid-American Conference rivals Saturday in Kalamazoo. Western Michigan defeated CMU 107-79 at the Compass Classic in the Chippewas' first outdoor meet of the season. "I thought we put forth a good effort," said coach Karen Lutzke.

When CMU equipment coordinator Mike McPike blasts an air horn every 15 minutes at football practice this spring, there is little confusion. Players and coaches scatter to their respective areas of the field and the next segment of practice continues. This spring marks the first time since the 1997 season the entire coaching staff has remained in place from the previous season.
