Central Michigan University will receive an increase of $819,400 and a total of approximately $82.7 million in funding from the state of Michigan for the 2009 fiscal year. Gov. Jennifer Granholm and both Michigan houses approved different educational budgets last week.

Chris Kaman, a former CMU center from 2001-2003, will play alongside Dirk Nowitzki as a member of the German National Basketball Team. Kaman, the starting center for the Los Angeles Clippers, will start playing in an Olympic qualifying tournament from July 14-20 in Athens.
Eve 6 and Every Avenue to perform at MAINstage

Eve 6 and Every Avenue will be this year's opening acts for the fall semester when they perform on Aug. 24 at Rose Ponds. The free concert will be the highlight of MAINstage 2008, which is held annually during welcome weekend. Eve 6, an alternative-rock band from Los Angeles, is currently working on a new album and those who go to the show might get a sneak peek at some new songs.
Budget model changes revenue flow

State appropriations have been an ongoing battle for Central Michigan University in the last five years. The result - declining revenue - has led administrators to re-think the university's operating budget model. When CMU's 2008-2009 fiscal year began Tuesday, an operating budget had yet to be approved.
Restoration scheduled for completion in August

Final renovations on Central Michigan University's Music Building are scheduled to be complete by the end of August. Dan Koefoed, Music Building coordinator and Performance Hall manager, said the plan is to have most of the labor done on Aug 15 and have scaffolding and fencing removed by Aug 28.

The Academic Career Empowerment summer program gives prospective students the opportunity to gain enrollment at Central Michigan University. The Minority Student Services' six-week program began June 18 and is for students that did not meet freshmen enrollment standards and were not accepted for the fall, said Sean Novak, interim assistant director for Minority Student Services.
