Chris Kaman, a former CMU center from 2001-2003, will play alongside Dirk Nowitzki as a member of the German National Basketball Team.
Kaman, the starting center for the Los Angeles Clippers, will start playing in an Olympic qualifying tournament from July 14-20 in Athens.
The Wyoming native's great-grandparents were German.
The German team has not qualified for the Olympics since 1992. The 7-foot center averaged 15.7 points and 12.7 rebounds last season in Los Angeles.

Good for him. Nice to see how far he's gone in the past several years. Cool to see him make the Olympics regardless of for whom. Hopefully he isn't subjected to any of that "traitor" garbage that that one woman in the WNBA has been in recent months. (Continued…)

Good Luck to Chris and the German national team in the Olympics. For a short time "Fire Up Chips!" will have to become "Fire Up Germans!"
I am sure some people will complain that he is playing for a country that he doesn't live in. (Continued…)

Born and raised in America (3rd gen), was given an education by a state run American University, and plays for an American Team in the NBA......and he decides to play for team Germany because of his great grandparents from being there?
That is pretty traitorous since Germany has squat for him in beginning to help to get where he is now. (Continued…)

A traitor!!
An example of International Multiculturalism.
I've never cheered against a CMU athlete but this will be a first.
I hope whichever "TRUE" American and the USA Team stuffs the basketball right down Kaman's throat. (Continued…)

dj rich, you're right. Chris isn't that great anyway.
First, he plays for the Clippers, not the Lakers.
Second, he couldn't make the American team!
You know what the difference between him and Majerle is. (Continued…)

I will not cheer for him as I think it is wrong to play for another country. Almost everyone that lives where I do originally came from Europe. I don't think that is was the Olympics are for. (Continued…)

As usual, this brought the idiots out of the workwork. Kris is not the traitor; the rest of you are the traitors. I WILL be rooting for Kris and the German team with exception of if/when they play the US team. (Continued…)

Some of the reactions were just as I expected, quite predictable.
But then again, he's actually applying the American Way quite successfully by doing what he's doing. (Continued…)
