As universities across the state raise tuition, CMU's new rate will be decided this week

Six of Michigan's public universities have set tuition for the fall semester. Central Michigan University will join them in a decision made Thursday. The Board of Trustees will decide at its 12:30 p.m. meeting how to assign tuition to a CMU Promise-less university.

Trustees approve 6.6 percent undergraduate tuition increase for fall

Students will pay $324 per credit hour

Incoming freshmen and undergraduate transfer students will pay $324 per credit hour in the fall, a 6.6 percent increase. The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees unanimously approved the increase at its Thursday meeting over two other options. A student taking a total of 30 credit hours for two semesters will pay $9,720 for tuition instead of last falls' $9,120.

Rao given authority to further negotiate lease

By a vote of 5-0, the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees gave University President Michael Rao the authority to negotiate a lease with developers for a hotel and office development. The project faced stiff opposition from Bart LaBelle, who spoke for 15 minutes at the outset of the meeting and asked the trustees to postpone a decision.

Nearly two months have passed since the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees delayed giving approval to University President Michael Rao to negotiate with land developers. The issue of placing a six-story Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites and three to five office buildings on 12 acres of the Center for Applied Research and Technology will be revisited Thursday at the Board's meeting.

Chippewa River District Library relying on millage renewal to stay open

The Veterans Memorial Library is counting on the community to help keep its doors open.

The library, located at 301 University Ave., is asking voters to approve a millage renewal, proposed by the Chippewa District Library system, in order cover operating costs. The Chippewa District Library system includes Faith Johnston Memorial Library in Rosebush, Rollan Township Library in Blanchard, Weidman Public Library in Weidman, Coe Township Library in Shepherd and Fremont Township Branch Library in Winn.

The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees gave University President Michael Rao Thursday the authority to draft a proposal that would change the way students are charged for tuition. The model would charge more per credit hour for students who have completed more than 56 credit hours than those with less than 56.
