Woman suspected of driving while intoxicated

The stairway to University Cup Coffee Co., S. 1027 Franklin St., was destroyed this morning after a woman allegedly drove her car onto the sidewalk while attempting to strike her boyfriend. Mount Pleasant Sgt. Cary Murch said the 20-year-old woman had alcohol in her system when she and her boyfriend argued before the incident.

Scammer seeks Isabella Bank account info

An individual has been calling residents and claiming to be a security officer for Isabella Bank to gain personal information, Mount Pleasant Police Department reports indicate. The individual, who is said to be male, will have limited information about the potential victim's name or account, said Dave Sabuda, MPPD public information officer.

Tailgating fight ends in maced participant

A male in a white undershirt was maced Thursday night while trying to leave tailgating in lot 63. Police officers came to the location when a fight started between tailgaters. "There was an individual that was fighting with some officers; an officer then pepper sprayed or maced that individual," said CMU Police Officer Jeff Card, who was not there but was on duty.

Parking change leads to 129 tickets Monday

Parking Services issued more than 129 parking tickets to vehicles wrongfully parked in lot 62E within the first two days of classes. The tickets were issued between 2 a.m. Monday morning to Tuesday at midnight, said CMU Police Chief Stan Dinius. Restricted parking violations cost the vehicle's owner $25.

Wireless routers cause Internet trouble at United Apartments

Internet trouble is a given when moving to a new residence, but some United Apartment residents were having more trouble than expected. Jeremy Sheets, president of CMS Internet, the company that provides service for United Apartments in Mount Pleasant, said some tenants were installing wireless routers backwards, resulting in Internet trouble for other tenants and hours of troubleshooting for the technicians.

Assignment deadlines are already accumulating for students. The deadline for the first tuition payment of the year is just another date to add to the list. Students have until 5 p.m. Sept. 5 to pay tuition for the fall semester. City commission plans for pedestrian islands

Mission and High streets will receive pedestrian islands to increase pedestrian safety in Mount Pleasant. Representatives from the Michigan Department of Transportation discussed their plans for safety with the City Commission on Monday at City Hall. Terry Palmer, MDOT Mount Pleasant Service Center manager, said construction is slated to begin in October and to last one month.

Students donate more than 50 pints of blood

Blood donation is something personal for Christina Bailey. The Manistee junior had surgery at the age of 15 and needed a blood transfusion after surgeons nicked one of her arteries. "It's kind of weird to think about, but really scary," she said. Bailey was one of several students who came to an American Red Cross blood drive Thursday in the Bovee University Center Terrace rooms.

'Hamlet 2' fails to live up to hype

"Hamlet 2" is a movie with a lot of wasted potential. There is no crime in creating a mediocre comedy, but it is a shame when it is so clear that it could have been better. Steve Coogan plays Dana Marschz, a failed actor who parlays his unfulfilled lust for fame into a career as a failed high school drama teacher.
