Season starts with two losses

Stanford, Syracuse combine for 11 goals

The field hockey team started off its season by dropping its first two games. On Friday, the team dropped an 8-3 decision against No. 18-ranked Syracuse at home and then lost 3-2 to Stanford on Sunday in Ann Arbor. Despite the team's two losses, coach Cristy Freese said CMU did show some promise.

Western gets first conference win

Western Michigan 29, Northern Illinois 26 Western Michigan (1-1 overall, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) earned its first conference win of the season after defeating Northern Illinois 29-26. Junior running back Brandon West rushed for a career-high 175 yards on 25 carries.

Schultz leads volleyball to tournament win

Freshman middle blocker Kaitlyn Schultz led the volleyball team to tournament championship on Saturday and was named tournament most valuable player. CMU won the Country Inn and Suites Challenge on Saturday at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The team lost one set in its three matches.

Kiprotich leads team again with third-place finish

It was the same story, just a different weekend for Sammy Kiprotich. The sophomore crossed the finish line at 26 minutes, one second to lead the men's cross country team at the Great American Legends meet while placing third overall. Kiprotich said the team regrouped after not running together last week.

Pimlott's two goals lead team in first game

The Central Michigan University men's club soccer team started its season with a 6-1 home win against Eastern Michigan on Saturday. "We needed this win to start this year," said freshman Ryan Pimlott. "We were looking for the strong win." Pimlott led the team with two goals but midfielder Jerome Ingrand started the scoring off of a cross form sophomore forward Jay McConnell, at the 15-minute mark.

No. 4 Oklahoma 52, Cincinnati 26 Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford threw for five touchdowns as the Sooners beat Cincinnati on Saturday at Norman, Okla. Bradford threw two interceptions but also had 395 yards, the third time he's reached that mark. On a key third-and-9 play with Oklahoma leading just 28-20 in the third quarter, Bradford lobbed the ball deep down the right sideline to freshman receiver Ryan Broyles, who jumped to take it away from two defenders for a 43-yard catch.
