Homecoming is not an exclusive tradition - thousands of schools and institutions around the nation celebrate it every year. But for CMU students and faculty, past and present, the annual event holds a distinct meaning. It is a day that brings together alumni from across the nation and from every walk of life, all to don the maroon and gold one more time and reflect on their college years once again.

The CMU football team brings a winning Homecoming tradition into this weekend's festivities. It carries a 53-27-1 all-time Homecoming record and draws bigger crowds of students and alumni into Kelly/Shorts Stadium each year. But junior linebacker Tim Brazzel simply prefers to look at CMU's 4 p.

Win gives CMU best MAC start since 1996

All eyes were focused on the ball senior outside hitter Sarah Warner tipped as it balanced on top of the net. It eventually fell on Eastern Michigan's side, giving the CMU volleyball team a 26-25 lead in the first set Thursday. Central (10-7 overall, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) would go on to win the first set 27-25 and use the momentum to win the match 3-1 at Rose Arena.

CMU junior quarterback Dan LeFevour left the game late in the first half with an undisclosed leg injury. LeFevour appeared to be favoring his right ankle as he headed to the CMU locker room under his own power with just more than a minute remaining in the second quarter.
Fast start stressed against Owls

Senior right tackle Greg Wojt said starting a game aggressively is the offensive line's consistent focus. It becomes even more imperative as the Chippewas face Temple at 4 p.m. Saturday for 2008's Homecoming game at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. The Owls (2-4 overall, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) have outscored opponents 34-0 in the first quarter and have scored first in five of their six games.
Women take four-game win streak on road this weekend

The women's soccer team's four-match homestand is over and now must take its perfect Mid-American Conference record on the road. The Chippewas play Kent State at 3 p.m. today before traveling to Buffalo, N.Y., for a 1 p.m. Sunday match against the Bulls. CMU is coming off a home stand that saw it open conference play with four consecutive wins while not allowing a single goal.
Revamped Central goes on road

The field hockey team will take its game to the road this weekend as it faces a rematch against Miami University and then travels to Ball State. CMU will face Miami on the road at 3 p.m. today and will try to avenge the Sept. 12 loss to the RedHawks. The team then will travel across the Indiana border to face Ball State at 1 p.
Top runners to sit out in Milford

Today is the last chance for CMU runners to show assistant coach Matt Kaczor why they deserve to run next week at Pre-Nationals or the Mid-American Conference Championships on Nov. 1. The men's cross country team will compete at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships at 4 p.

CMU faces a Michigan team that has performed very well so far this fall. The teams both played a common opponent earlier this season - Bowling Green - with staggeringly different results.
