No arrests yet as police probe fight at Delta Chi

Police say they still are interviewing 25 to 30 witnesses, suspects and victims in regards to the Sunday morning brawl at the Delta Chi fraternity house. The majority are witnesses, Mount Pleasant Police Department Inspector Tom Forsberg said. The MPPD has not confirmed the assailants and no arrests have been made.
University, Faculty Association reach tentative agreement

Central Michigan University and the CMU Faculty Association agreed Wednesday to extend the current faculty contract until Oct. 24. A tentative agreement on a new faculty contract was reached mid-afternoon Wednesday, pending the resolution of one outstanding issue, said Bill Dailey, Faculty Association spokesperson and communication and dramatic arts faculty member.

Raymond Demetrius Jones, 23, was sentenced today to 19 to 30 years in prison for his involvement in the New Year's Day beating outside of O'Kelly's Sports Bar & Grill, 2000 S. Mission St. As part of a plea agreement reached last month, Jones' maximum sentence was capped at 30 years for pleading no contest to assault with intent to murder James Reynold Williams, 23 Jones has spent more than 270 days in the Isabella County Jailhouse, 207 Court St.

Tony DiTucci has officially resigned his position as women's soccer coach according to a press release Wednesday evening by Central Michigan University Athletics. DiTucci said the following in the release: "Although this was a difficult decision for me, I have enjoyed my coaching experience at CMU," DiTucci said.

A conflict with fees for security at a presentation by right-wing activist David Horowitz Tuesday has caused conflict between Central Michigan University and Campus Conservatives. Campus Conservatives spokesman and Topinabee senior Dennis Lennox II contacted the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education last week after discovering Campus Conservatives was being charged for having security at Horowitz's presentation.
Faculty contract expires today

Report shows increases in theft, sexual assault cases

A crime statistics report for Central Michigan University shows an increase in burglaries, theft and sexual offenses on campus last year and a decline in the number of liquor law violations. According to the report, instances of burglary on campus rose from 10 in 2006 to 13 in 2007.
Safety islands on Mission, High streets construction

Mount Pleasant City Commissioners approved a contract for the Michigan Department of Transportation to begin construction of pedestrian safety islands on Mission and High streets. The Zumba Latin Aerobics was back for its fourth year, sponsored by the Minority Student Services for Hispanic Heritage Month. The last time Samantha Baderschneider saw her father was at their family cabin in Tustin last July, where they had made a habit of surrounding a fire, telling stories and drinking beer. While clearing trees in that same area Sunday evening, 54-year-old Greg Baderschneider died of a heart attack.
