Hand gives forum, claims Coca-Cola funding 'simply ran out'

According to Gregory Hand, special assistant to the Vice President for Health Sciences at West Virginia University and co-founder of Global Energy Balance Network, the $806,500 for a for an “energy flux” study in 2011 and $507,000 to establish the Global Energy Balance Network, according to the Times, given to him by Coca-Cola “simply ran out.” Hand was on the Board and helped put together the website, he said.

The search for the new vice president for research and dean of graduate studies is down to two candidates.CMU Vice Provost for Academic Effectiveness Claudia Douglas and the 10-member search committee has narrowed its choices to David Ash, interim vice president for research and dean of graduate studies, and Gregory Hand, West Virginia University special assistant to the vice president for health sciences.According to the CMU website, each candidate will be on campus for interviews and an open forum.Ash will conduct his open forum Jan.


Rules regarding attire unclear for graduates at commencement

Students choosing to decorate hats or mortar boards in different ways at Central Michigan University's commencement might be violating the ceremony rules on proper attire. Yet those students might not know of their wrongdoing until it's too late due to the vague language of the rule. In a document sent out to graduates, listing information about the commencement committee, there are no direct rules on graduation attire.



Graduate Studies Interim Dean Roger Coles receives honor for community service

More than 20 supporters advocated for the community service efforts of Roger Coles, interim dean of the College of Graduate Studies, and they were heard. On Feb. 12, 430 people — the largest crowd present in the history of the event — watched Coles as he received the 2011 Fred and Lena Meijer Spirit of Caring Award at the Many Hearts One Mission Charity Ball in the Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.
