Despite a “great team performance” on Saturday, Central Michigan University’s track and field teams both fell short of a championship crown in the 2015 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships at Jack Skoog Indoor Track.The men finished in fifth overall, good for last place in the MAC (64 points). The women finished in the lower-middle of the pack, in eighth out of 12 teams (. The University of Akron men and Eastern Michigan University women each took home the championship trophy.Mark Guthrie, director of CMU track and field, knew his teams were out of championship contention going into Saturday, but was pleased with his team’s ability to compete.“I’m happy with the effort,” Guthrie said.

It was a busy first day of competition in the 2015 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track.There were a total of 12 women’s teams and five men’s teams who had representatives competing in the championships.Mark Guthrie, Director of track and field and cross-country said earlier in the week that he did not expect either of his teams to compete for a team title.

Mark Guthrie told the Central Michigan University track and field teams earlier this week that they have a great opportunity ahead of them this weekend and they have to take advantage of it.They heard his message loud and clear.The Chippewas took home several top five finishes this Friday and Saturday at the Spire Collegiate Invitational in Geneva, Ohio and also broke an indoor school record.Guthrie, director of CMU track and field, was pleased with his team’s performance against their second straight week of top Division I competition.“We had a lot of good things happen,” Guthrie said.

The outdoor track season will be in full swing this weekend, regardless of Mother Nature’s plans. Despite potential harsh weather conditions, the Chippewas will travel to Michigan State University to compete at the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invite. Weather conditions are projected at 40 degree temperatures and winds of 18 mph. “We will probably be limited by the weather, but it’s an opportunity to compete against a Big Ten school,” said Mark Guthrie, director of track and field.
