The field hockey team won its opening game for the first time since 2006-07 Friday, winning 3-0 in Colgate.
“We really felt good especially since we have gotten off to slow starts the last couple of years,” said coach Cristy Freese. “This needed to be a big weekend for us and it was certainly nice to start off with a win and a shut out.”
The field hockey team travels to New York for two non-conference games over the weekend.
The team plays Colgate at 7 p.m. today and Rider at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Sophomore Paulina Lee is a mid-fielder for the Field Hockey team. Lee tied for the team’s fourth ranked scorer last season, but she feels she also could be a soccer player.
Melinda Curran is doing something very few college athletes get to do.
While she is listed as a senior on the team’s roster, Curran needed just three years to obtain her four-year degree in psychology last May.
Despite graduating in May, she will return to play for the Chippewas for her fourth and final year of eligibility.
