Fiction reading
Writers Matt Bell and Mick McGrath will read fiction from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Art Reach Center of Mid Michigan, 319 S. University St. Bell, who writes fiction for literary magazines, is the editor of The Collagist and has a book, “How They Were Found,” that will be released in October. McGrath is a Master’s program candidate for Central Michigan University. Local musician Joe Hertler, a Troy senior, will perform. The event is free and hosted by Central Michigan University’s Wellspring Literary Series.

One Central Michigan University employee is campaigning to take the 99th District seat in the Michigan House. Christine Alwood, director of Stewardship and Donor Relations, spoke during the CMU College Republican’s meeting Tuesday night — focusing on her candidacy and platform goals — for the second time this year. If successful in the coming election, she’ll replace the Republican incumbent, Rep. Bill Caul, R-Mount Pleasant.

Dr. Kerry Bunker and Mike Wakefield will lead a session that takes a closer look at the evolving leadership model, along with the leadership capacities necessary in today’s world. The session will take place from noon to 1 p.m. today in Rowe Hall 229. The session, a Webinar, will guide leaders in how to handle unintended consequences, such as reorganization, mergers, acquisitions and downsizing.
