The CMU field hockey team failed to live up to its preseason projection of finishing second in the Mid-American Conference.

The field hockey team was elimated in the Mid-American Conference tournament with a 2-1 loss to Ohio on Friday.

The field hockey team will face Ohio in the Mid-American Conference semifinals for a chance to get back to the championship round for the first time since 2005.

The CMU field hockey team can end its two-game Mid-American Conference losing streak in its regular-season finale this weekend against Missouri State.

The field hockey team regained its tough defensive form as it shutout Michigan 1-0 on Wednesday.

“After the disappointing weekend last weekend I talked to the kids about putting more effort and passion and I thought our kids did a great job of that today,” said coach Cristy Freese.

Rebounding after a winless weekend for the field hockey team is easier when its next opponent is Michigan, said sophomore Paulina Lee.

The Wolverines and the Chippewas will take the field at 3 p.m. today at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.

The CMU field hockey team’s defensive play has been its strength this season.

That was not the case Sunday.

The field hockey team’s offensive struggles continued Saturday in a 5-2 loss against Kent State.
