Richard Short was given a $9.1 million tax break to start his company, Renewable and Sustainable Cos. Short is a convicted felon who owes Michigan nearly $100,000. The lack of background checks from the state only ensures that the wrong people are getting massive amounts of money.

Students, faculty and campus staff are surprised at the announcement of the Medical College dean. Like the hiring of the university president and the football coach, the administration refused to let the CMU community be a part of the screening process.

One suggestion to the SSBAG is to charge freshmen more money to park on campus via layered parking. This suggestion won’t help the university though and should be bypassed.

Not everyone around campus will be happy with the administration’s budget cuts. Smaller programs like the Leadership Institute are great but not essential to CMU’s survival. Consideration for closing it down may be in the best interest for CMU financially.

CMU’s budget is in crisis. The administration held it’s first open forum on the budget Tuesday, yet few questions were asked after the pressentation. If students and faculty want to influence decisions at CMU, they have to start speaking up.
