These were the traits five elementary school students said their ideal teacher must possess at Monday night’s “Viewpoint: A Kid’s Perspective” forum in the Education and Human Services Building’s French Auditorium.

For Lori Cortez, the Education and Human Services Building is changing the way teachers are being made.
Cortez, an adjunct professor of History at Saginaw Valley State University, is working on her doctorate at CMU. Having already taught at Mid-Michigan Community College and SVSU, Cortez is taking three classes on qualitative analysis on the weekends in the EHS Building.

Civil War Reenactment
The fifth annual Mid-Michigan Civil War Muster will take place this weekend at Deerfield Nature Park, 2425 W. Remus Road. Battles from Buzzard’s Roost, GA and Mount Pleasant, Tenn., will be reenacted at 1:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Other events include public drills and artillery demonstrations. Admission is free, although there is a parking fee of $5. Tickets are available from Isabella County Parks and Recreation. For a full story, visit cm-life.com.

The new Education and Human Services building is popping with new technology and teaching software.
Ray Francis, interim associate dean of the College of Education and Human Services, said it is receiving all positive input.
“(There are) new classrooms, new furniture, new technology, open spaces and the routine’s different. There is a lot available here and everything is exciting and new for everybody,” he said.

Einstein Bros. Bagels, a breakfast, coffee and sandwich restaurant, opens today.
The restaurant, on the first floor of the building, created a buzz of anticipation among students and staff.
“Everyone is very excited,” said Jaime Clark, Assistant Director of Retail for Central Michigan University Campus Dining. “I’ve even heard from a few people from the community who plan to come to campus just to visit Einstein.”
