Donald, Gay Straight Alliance ambassador, wants to educate people about the process of coming out and how to handle the differences people may have with their orientation.

Those were the emotions rushing through Shannon Jolliff before she came out to her friends and family.

The Office of Gay and Lesbian Programs and the Gay Straight Alliance will sponsor several events today through Friday in honor of Straight Ally Week.

President Barack Obama’s recent vow to get rid of the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ military policy has many people talking.

Members of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender and straight communities will march Sunday in Washington, D.C. with one demand — equal rights for LGBT people.
“We’re out here, and they need to listen to us,” said Duane Breijak, a member of the Michigan Democratic Party LGBT Caucus and Michigan organizer for the national event.

Flint senior Will Calhoun said the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy has caused many service members to lose their jobs.

“The military won’t ask, but you can’t tell,” said the Central Michigan University representative for the Isabella County Human Rights Committee.
