SOUTH BEND, IND — It took two minutes and 29 seconds for Notre Dame to show the CMU soccer team how dangerous its offense could be.
The season continues for the soccer team.
In its first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, CMU defeated No. 24 Purdue 2-0 on Friday in South Bend.
The soccer ball was placed 12 yards from CMU goalkeeper Shay Mannino with 2:19 remaining in the Mid-American Conference Championship game.
One goalkeeper was the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
The other was not even on the team to start the year.
As Freshman Bailey Brandon walked up to the ball as the fifth shooter for CMU, she had the chance to get her team into the Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship.
Brandon took advantage of the opportunity, advancing CMU 4-2 on penalty kicks after a scoreless regulation and two overtimes against Toledo Friday at CMU Soccer Complex.
The CMU soccer team will have a chance to earn its first-ever Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship this weekend.
The Chippewas (15-3-2, 9-0-2) play Toledo (11-6-3, 6-3-2) in the first semifinal at 11 a.m. Friday at the CMU Soccer Complex for a chance to play Sunday in the final.
The CMU soccer team needed just one goal Sunday to advance in the Mid-American Conference tournament.
Freshman Bailey Brandon sent the ball to freshman Ashley Mejilla, who put the ball into the back of the net to give the Chippewas a 1-0 win over Western Michigan at the CMU Soccer Complex.
