That is NOT legal. You CANNOT hold someone's property hostage if they want to leave. I'd like to see see someone with an emergency denied exit sue these morons.

CMU, do the right thing, the alumni is asking you to do the right thing. Do it for the tradition, the town, the current students, and the two weekends a year all of us alumni come back to the Pleas (homecoming and western). These rules are not right, I understand the need but these are not working. I think everyone would be cool with eliminating glass, utilizing trash recepticals, and even kegs or other excessively large alcohol containers. I think just enforcing these few rules will go along way. Now the other rules, seriously, what are these accomplishing. No grills (joke) No coolers (joke) No trailers (joke) No pets (seriously why? whats the problem if there leashed) No music (why, what is this preventing) These rules are just completely stupid, I think the entire CMU family could live with the few modifications I mentioned. Make it happen CMU, you have destroyed years of tradition and the top five biggest sports days that happen each year at CMU. Hey Alumni Party in the D, MAC CHAMP and Motor City Bowl. At least we can do it right down there!!

I am just shocked, disappointed, and completely outraged about the new tailgate policies at my beloved CMU. These rules are completely rediculous and have sucked the life out of football saturday in Mt. Pleasnt Michigan. There are over one hundred Division 1 football universities in this country and everyone of them has learned to deal with what accompanies tailgating during gameday. Several years ago, CMU was on the verge of losing its division one status due to poor attendance. Administrators were begging students to just show up and get counted to ensure there division one status would remain. Fellow Chips, we are headed back down this road. What did administrators think would happen when they imposed these rules? Alumni do not just show up to support the football team, in fact its secondary. They show up to drink with old friends, comeback to the school, and relive and share old memories. This is just a big mood killer, school is getting very laim and is not like it use to be. What happen to the dirt lots and the flags with the flying C with the spear through it. Look I understand wanting to ensure the safety of others on football Saturday, its an issue on every campus in the country. However, other universities realize that there is only so much they can do without negatively impacting football Saturday. CMU, do the right thing and reevaluate these policies. Placing a ban on the size of grill you can have is rediculous, whats the prolem with having a dog if it is leashed? If your of age how can you monitor how much someone has to drink? Whats with not allowing trailers? This has always been allowed and has never been a problem. Just stupid, I was looking forward to homecoming weekend and so were a lot of my fellow Chips here in southeast michigan. I can say that most of us have declined to attend because we are not allowed to plan and execute our usual tailgate scene. I dont think the commitee did a lot of research and really didnt think things through before this was brought in to effect. CONGRATULATIONS, you have ruined football saturday in Mt. Pleasant. Im glad I was there in the glory days, looks like ill have a better time in East Lansing or Ann Arbor from now on. Heck, dare I say it, maybe a better time in KZOO or YPSI lol dont laugh its going to be true. Have fun with all those empty lot spaces and empty seats. Back to the days of DICK FLYNN when you didnt even realize we had a football team.

NO MORE DONATIONS. TAKE ME OFF YOUR LIST. THE PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TAILGATING POLICY ARE VIOLATING YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS BY NOT ALLOWING YOU TO LEAVE IN YOUR CAR BEFORE THE 3RD QUARTER? LAWSUIT TIME! GO AHEAD AND ARREST ME SO I CAN GET A BUILDING NAMED AFTER ME! BOYCOTT BOYCOTT BOYCOTT. WE WILL SHOW YOU THE POWER OF UNITY WHEN US "DUMB" CMU STUDENTS AND ALUMNI GET TOGETHER!

Let the kids have fun, for God sakes! It's college, not boarding school. I'm not donating anymore until this policy is changed - take that to the bank, CMU Administration.

I can't help but LOL at the outrage that a person can "only" have SIX beers or ONE PINT of liquor. My goodness, how can anyone survive or have any fun with such gross limitations! While I'm all for personal freedoms and the college experience, there are much bigger issues affecting CMU and few less wasted undergrads won't be such a bad thing. Stop making my alma matter look like a joke!

Derek van der Merwe, Senior Associate Athletics Director

Julia Wallace, Executive Vice President and Provost
Director William Yeagley, Mt. Pleasant Police Department:

First of all, I would like to personally commend all of you for making it your sole duty to ensure the "image" of CMU isn't tarnished by its fans. For the first time, CMU's football program has garnerned national attention and that recognition must have sparked an idea in all of your minds that you and your precious titles might be tarnished by a horde of drunken tailgaters. Have any of you ever been to a Big Ten school for a tailgate atmosphere? Because I'm certain that you are hoping to consider yourself in that caliber of a program with your "protection" regulations. One of the best things about CMU is that it is (prepare yourself here) a MIDDLE-SIZE SCHOOL for MIDDLE-INCOME STUDENTS. Former CMU President Michael Rao had a vision of CMU being a research-intensive university that wanted its staff to focus on bringing recognition to the school. His vision changed what CMU has always been, and that change is even more evident in these regulations. Who are any of you to tell me, or any other individual who decides to celebrate a saturday football game with support for the Chippewas, what we can or cannot do? How can you justify a regulation that says six beers or a pint is okay for a 98-pound female and say that same regulation will have the same effect on a 240-pound male? The two will have very different reactions to the amount of alcohol. And, let's face it, behind all the safety and fun environment you have shrouded these policies with, it is your poor image on a national stage that you are worried about. Well don't worry, because with a student body as intelligent and determined as the one at CMU, your image on a national stage will soon be shown. I can only hope that the protests of the students reach some national attention, and you have to answer for the decisions you've made.

Alumni, refuse to donate to CMU athletics until the policies are changed back to the way they were when we were students. It's a crime to deprive the current students of the experiences that we had as students. That is truly the only way to get the rules reversed. Boycotting tailgate is not going to help, its playing into their hands because now they're going to need less security and will have less expenses. Cut CMU athletics donations in half and we'll see how long those rules last.

No glass would have probably been accepted by students, because it truly can present hazards. Providing trash bags would have probably been accepted. A few other moderations would have been fine. 6 beers--ridiculous. No speakers, music--ridiculous.
