Gas leak at Henry and Broadway causes residential evacuation
A gas leak caused by road construction caused the evacuation of six houses near the corner of Broadway and Henry streets around 9 a.m. More residents could be evacuated if the gas leak continues.
Mount Pleasant City police and firefighters are urging people to stay at least a block away from the area until the gas leak can be fixed.
"It's a real strong smell," said Officer Jeff Browne, public information officer for the city. "We have contacted energency Miss Dig from DTE/MichCon for this repair. DTE is on the scene, but it doesn't sound like it'll be an easy fix."
Mount Pleasant police and the Mount Pleasant Department of Public Works are on the scene as well.
Browne said there is not a timeline for fixing the broken gas main yet.
