Women's hoops assistant coach takes lead job at Bethel College
Central Michigan University women’s basketball assistant coach Andrew Wodrich has taken the women’s basketball head coaching job at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind.
Wodrich spent two years at CMU alongside head coach Sue Guevara where he helped lead the Chippewas to back-to-back Mid-American Conference West Division titles.
“I can’t say enough about what Coach G and what CMU has meant to my career as a coach and my life as a whole,” Wodrich said. “This is an incredible program (at CMU) and I was lucky to be a part of it for as long as I was. I was truly blessed.”
Guevara pointed to Wodrich’s positive attitude as the biggest asset BC gains next season.
“When you move six inches down the bench to the head coach’s chair, there is a lot more that comes with that,” Guevara said. “There are going to be bumps along the way for him just like there are for all of us. But he always finds the silver lining in any situation. That will definitely benefit that program.”
Wodrich worked primarily with perimeter players like Kerby Tamm and Niki DiGuilio during his pair of seasons on the Chippewas bench.
CMU shot 41 percent from the floor, including 35 percent from 3-point range last season.
“Coach Woody is a really offensive-minded guy,” Guevara said. “He did a lot for this program and worked so well with everyone here. I’m really happy for him.”
Wodrich is a 2007 graduate of Bethel College, where he played two seasons on the Pilots’ men’s team from 2004-2006.
“I’m excited coach at the next level,” he said. “Being able to positively effect peoples lives and do that around basketball is the whole reason I got into coaching. This is a great feeling.”
