As winter break approaches for Mount Pleasant public schools, the city’s hands-on museum will offer a slate of science and winter themed events geared toward children and their families.

From 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 22, the Discovery Museum will present its latest exhibit, “cREate!” The sustainability-focused exhibit will give children of all ages the chance to make and take home art projects built from recycled materials.

From 9 a.m. to noon, local artists will be on hand to build crafts with patrons. These artists in residence will also perform live art demonstrations. The event is free with the purchase of daily admission.

The museum will also host a New Year’s Eve party for children and families starting at 6 p.m., featuring games and activities, a presentation of New Year’s traditions from around the world, a “kiddy” cocktail toast and a simulated ball drop at 9 a.m. Tickets cost $10 per person and $40 for a families with a limit of six people. Tickets are not included in membership packages. Purchasing advance tickets are recommended.

On Fridays throughout the month, admission will be $5 after 5 p.m and free for members. The museum will be closed Dec. 24 and 25.
