Barstow's Artist-in-Residence to host 'Artist Talk'

Central Michigan University’s Barstow Artist-in-Residence program will be hosting an ‘Artist Talk’ at 5 p.m. on Sept. 15 in Wightman Hall room 142.
The Barstow Artist-in Residence this year is Julie Benda, a printmaker, sculptor and public artist. Her work has been featured by Make MN Magazine, MN Original and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency.
Benda’s goal through her artwork is “…to use narrative, poetry and humor in all its diverse forms to create a sense of place, kinship and responsibility to one another.”
The Barstow Artist-in-Residence program is an endorsement made by Midland architect, Stephen L. Barstow which allows professional working artists to stay on campus each year with provided living, a studio to practice in and university resources for any research purposes.
In addition, these artists are expected to mentor students, host workshops, host studio visits and exhibition events in order to engage and provide learning opportunities for students.
